Get Free Publicity on the Internet

Case Study: How to Get Free Publicity on the Internet

In addition to submitting press releases to periodicals and broadcast news outlets, also send the press release to internet news sites.  More and more people are getting their news from the internet, and  many of the sites are read by a tightly targeted group of people.  Getting an article on one of those sites ensures your message gets in front of the people you want reading it.

For example, on January 21, 2006 I attended the Golden Mike Awards for the Radio & Television News Association. This is an annual event that is always well attended by many big names in the news in the LA area.

One of the radio stations that took home a lot of trophies was KFWB-AM 980. I offered to submit a press release about KFWB to LARadio.com, a local website that provides news and information about the radio stations in Los Angeles. LARadio.com has more than 50,000 members, so it's good exposure for anyone to get an article on it.

To make a long story short: I submitted a news release, and got an article on LARadio.com.

Here's the news release:

KFWB Wins Seven Golden Mike Awards

At the Radio and Television News Association of Southern California's 56th Annual Golden Mike awards dinner held on January 21, 2006, KFWB Radio won seven trophies:
1.  "Best Radio Newscast -- Over 15 Minutes," in Division A.
2.  "Best Radio Newscast Writing -- Over 15 Minutes";
3.  "Best Radio 'Live' Coverage of a News Story," for its coverage of the Metrolink Disaster;
4.  "Best Radio Sports Segment";
 5. "Best Radio Traffic Report"; and
 6. "Best Original News Commentary, Analysis, Station Editorial or Series of Editorials," for
the segment, "Dying for a Settlement."
 7.  KFWB also shared the award, with KNX, for "Best Radio News Special," for their joint
effort, "There But For The Grace Of God."
KFWB reporter Steve Kindred, as president of RTNA, served as master of ceremonies for
the Golden Mikes Dinner, and presented a lifetime achievement award to Dean Sander.

The point: Don't hesitate to submit your news releases to websites. Web exposure is just as good as newspaper articles because a lot of people get their news from the Internet. You'll be reaching a lot of readers when you get internet coverage.
